National Margarita Day

One thing that I am continuously learning here at Silverfox is the power of Cultural Opportunism and the role that it can play when both the content and the message align to something that is naturally occurring.  This thought/idea is what lead me to my post today...well, that and I like Margaritas!
When checking the Hot Trends Gadget on my iGoogle home screen today, I came to find that today, February 22nd, is National Margarita day.  Who would have thought there was a National day to celebrate a drink that was made in Mexico, but then again who cares?  It's another great excuse to drink.
Now, I don't want to get into specifics to how the Margarita came to be, as there are many different rumored starts, but they all have a couple of things in common...they were all made out of Tequila, they were all made with some variation of Lime Juice, all in Mexico, and all made either by or for a woman named Margarita.

As with the rumored origins of this fantastic concoction, there are several different variations in which to consume this Tequila based drink. You can order it frozen or on the rocks.  You can order in a variety of  flavors such as Strawberry, Mango, Pomegranate, Cucumber, and the list goes on and on.  Some places even get a little bit more fancy by adding in different infusions.  For example, Pedros in SF makes a margarita with Jalapenos...YES I know this sounds odd, but it is quite tasty.  From here you can get even more specific on what type of tequila is used Blanco, Reposado, Anejo (just remember B.R.A.), what region the tequila came from, and of course what brand you prefer such as Cabo Wabo, Patron, Herradura, and one of my favorites Tres Generaciones.
All the professionals say that the margarita can only be as good as the tequila that you start out with...this can be up for debate as I have had (and made) some pretty bangin margaritas made with Jose Cuervo...

I am going to leave you all with those thoughts as I am getting thirsty with all this talk of Tequila and Margaritas.

Hopefully tomorrow is national Alka-Seltzer day as I have a feeling that I will be needing some.
Happy National Margarita Day!

Brrrr

We recently found out that our building was never configured to have heat in each of the new spaces when it was renovated.  Therefor we are all freezing our arses off...I am pretty sure that I heard teeth chattering earlier.  The really unfortunate thing is that I don't have any skin or muscle so this is a cold that gets me to the bone.

Hopefully it will warm up and I will thaw out so that I can craft a decent blog post.

Monday Morning Status

Mondays...unfortunately you can't start the week without them.  I am sure you are wondering why I am writing about Monday Status.  I mean how exciting can a status meeting be, especially on Monday morning?  Well here at the Foxhole, I find the status meetings to be rather, energizing.  Either that or I have just finished my second cup o' joe.  No, but seriously I say this because we each get a little glimpse of what people have either worked on the previous week and/or are working on this week.
The thing is when you work with a bunch of people that are smart and passionate about their job it makes it a little bit easier to come to work on Monday morning.  The collaboration and ideas that we put forth for each client are amazing!  Everybody has a top line understanding about each client, and all are encouraged to participate in every discussion about the brand, initiative, or just random discussions.  On top of that I love that almost everything we decide to pitch to the client is about creating content that adds value to their consumer. It's not about simply creating and buying some ad online, in print, or on TV.  It is about taking that next step and making a meaningful connection.
I dont' want to get into detail, but her are some of the ideas of content that we constantly think about.

Gaming (digital, video, social, mobile,etc)
Music
Blogs/Podcast
Webisodes

When you think about content, what do you think about?

Well I have rambled on long enough about how much I LOVE the things that we do and the people that I work with.
Happy Valentines Day.

Shameless Promotion - Skullcandy

As I am interning here with the crazies at Silverfox and we are an Advertising Agency, I want to embrace that and do my part to promote the products, services, or even places that I digg.
Today I want to give a shout out to the guys over at Skullcandy...Yeah yeah yeah...no it is not JUST because they have a kick ass name and logo.  These guys have the sickest headphones out there with enough shapes, styles and colors to match anybodies taste.  I rock the classic Black G.I.'s and not only do they offer the most comfort and sound quality, but they come with a built in bottle opener...WICKED!

Their headphones are what got me interested about these guys in the first place, but they have a lot going on.  They have the Skullcandy team, which sponsoring extreme sport athletes across several sports (snow, ski, surf, bmx, etc), and Skullcandy TV (SKTV) providing sick videos promoting their athletes, musicians, and even products.
Don't forget about their clothing line, which features built in audio pockets on your favorite hoodies and beanies, just throw in their home brew kit so you never have to be without tunes.
Anyways I could go on an on, about how they have identified their audience and broke out on the scene by providing something useful (and cool) to their audience thereby making a deeper conection...but you know what, I just simply like their products.

This message was brought to you by the Letter G & I.

Office Hazing

So as you can see some of the guys in the office thought it was clever to buy me a bag of Doritos, feed them to me and sprinkle them on my head.
SERIOUSLY!? You guys are gonna make my scalp dry out.
Don't guys understand it was only a commercial.  I am not going to magically come back to life, Not today, Not tomorrow, Not ever.

Oh the joys of being the new guy.

Rough Monday

Today was a little rough!  Come'on the Monday after the SuperBowl should be a national holiday, it is more like the day of the dead than Halloween, everybody is walking around like zombies.  Even I was no exception.
What I find amazing, is that the top 5 google trends today all revolved around the SuperBowl commercials and not around the actual game itself...the SUPERBOWL.  The other 5 top trends were about Christina botching the lyrics to the national anthem (by the way she looked worse than I do) or the Half Time Show with the Black Eyed Peas, Slash, & Usher.
Since everyone from the Frag Dolls to the Washington Post wrote about the commercials, I might as well as add my 2 cents.

Top Five (a tribute to my co-worker Paco's blog)

  1. Volkswagon: The Force - Its simple, a kid in a Darth Vador suit, the "Imperial March". Whats not to like?

  2. Volkswagon; Black Beetle - It reminded me of "A Bugs Life", that's enough reason for me.
  3.  Doritos: House Sitting - Spoiler Alert, he brings Gramps back to life...hey sprinkle some of those Doritos over here.
  4. Pepsi Max: Love Hurts - The suffering of one man and the pains of dieting, and ending in the pain of a young woman with can of soda to the head.  Others pains is comedy.
  5. Bridgestone: Beaver Tree Bridge - 2 Lives saved, and a beaver chest tap.  Top 5 Material every day.
Honorable Mentions:  Chrystler Imported from Detroit & Teleflora Help Me Faith.
Disappointments, Bud Light (all 3), and Hyundai Elantra.

Which ads would make your Top 5?
Gotta Run!

SUPERBOWL!

As people get excited for the upcoming BIG GAME there is no shortage of people speculating who this years Champs will be.  One of my favorite lists is the one done by ESPN where they've put together some of today's and yesterday's notable celebrities. Check out what Jack Nicklaus, Cal Ripkin Jr, and Tim Lincecum have to say on ESPN Celebrity Picks
As interesting as all of build up is for the SuperBowl and the actual game is, being new to advertising I just can't help but get excited for the commercials. No, seriously! Remember the awesome, and oh so young, Betty White Clip from last year?   I am interested to see what the big brands like Budweiser, Doritos, and GoDaddy are going to do with their :30 second commercials.  Don't for get they all come with a $3million price tag per spot...that's a lot of Bones! (sorry, couldn't resist.)
I know from my previous posts you guys must think that agency life is a lot of hanging around, sinking beers and being inappropriately pawed by co-workers (I'm looking at you, Gunaca), here's a shot of me actually doing some work - kinda. So that I don't miss out on any of the commercials, I am liking all my favorite brands on Facebook, some of them already have content, teasers, and clips from past SuperBowl commercials.

Here I am checking out Budweiser's FB Page...not because I like the beer but because I like the Ponies!
Who will you "Like" before the big game and what brand(s) do you think will have the best commercial?
